Vodafone Idea Had a Big Problem with Its Service, and Now It’s Slowly Getting Fixed

Vodafone Idea Outage: People who use Vodafone Idea (also called Vi) in several big cities in India, like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Pune, suddenly lost their phone service early on Friday, April 18, 2025.   

The problem started around 12:30 AM. Many customers had no phone signal, so they couldn’t make calls, send texts, or use the internet on their phones. A website called Downdetector, which tracks when online services are down, said that the most complaints happened at 1:01 AM. Most of the people affected were in North India, but there were also reports from other parts of the country.

Downdetector Showed Lots of People Complaining

Downdetector recorded over 1,940 complaints from users when the problem was at its worst. The main issues people reported were:

• No signal at all: 71% of users
• The whole network was down: 21% of users
• Problems with connecting or using the internet: 9% of users

The cities that had the most trouble were New Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Mumbai, and Pune. People in these areas had a hard time connecting.

What People Said on Social Media

Frustrated users went to social media websites like X (which used to be called Twitter) to talk about the problem and say how worried they were. Here’s what some people said:

Prakhar Dixit: “Vodafone Idea (Vi) is having a really bad network problem right now that’s affecting many areas, including Gurugram and Delhi. As of 2:00 AM on April 18 in India, more than 1,800 users have said they have no service at all and that their mobile internet isn’t working.”

Mohit: “I don’t expect too much from Vodafone Idea, but they should at least give us a basic 2G network even if we pay for 5G. It’s crazy that we can’t make calls or use the internet for hours.”

Kranti Sangam Saxena: “Vi users all over India are facing a big outage. More than 1,800 complaints have been made on Downdetector since around 12:30 AM. About 72% said they had no signal, 16% said everything was down, and 11% had problems with their mobile internet. I turned off my SIM card, took it out, and put it back in. Nothing worked.”

Many people even tried to fix the problem by restarting their phones or taking out and putting back in their SIM cards. But it didn’t help because the issue was a technical problem with the network itself.

What Vodafone Idea Officially Said

Vodafone Idea acknowledged the situation and released a statement saying:

“Our phone services in the Delhi area were briefly affected early on Friday because of a technical problem. The problem has been fixed, and all services are working normally again. We are very sorry for any trouble this caused and we thank our users for being patient and understanding.”  

While most users have said that their services are now working again, some are still having their signal drop sometimes. This shows that the network is still in the process of becoming stable again.
