Bombay High Court Sends Notices to Devendra Fadnavis and BJP MLAs About Claims They Broke Election Rules in 2024
The Nagpur part of the Bombay High Court has sent notices to Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and BJP lawmakers Mohan Mate and Kirtikumar ‘Bunty’ Bhangadiya. These notices are about claims that they broke the rules for elections during the 2024 state elections.
This happened after Congress candidates, who lost the elections, filed legal papers to challenge the wins. These papers say there were mistakes in how the elections were done and that some people did things that were not honest during the elections in November 2024.
Congress Papers Ask for Election Results to be Called “Invalid”
Congress leader Prafulla Vinodrao Gudadhe, who lost to Devendra Fadnavis in the Nagpur South-West area by 39,710 votes, filed a paper in January asking the court to say the election result was not valid. Similar papers were filed by Congress candidates Kiran Pandav, who ran against Mohan Mate in Nagpur South, and Satish Warjukar, who challenged Bhangadiya’s win in Chimur, Chandrapur district.
All these papers were filed by lawyers Pavan Dahat and Akash Moon.
On Thursday, Judge Pravin Patil heard these cases in his office and told Devendra Fadnavis, Mohan Mate, and Kirtikumar Bhangadiya to give their answers to the claims by May 8, 2024.

Claims That Election Rules Were Broken
The papers say that important election rules that the Election Commission makes people follow were ignored. Especially the official announcement about using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The people who filed the papers say that these mistakes make the election process unfair and not clear.
Other Similar Legal Actions
This action follows a similar move by the Bombay High Court, which recently sent notices to BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar, NCP (Ajit Pawar group) lawmaker Manoj Kayande, and BJP’s Deorao Bhongale. These notices were also based on papers saying that election rules were broken during the 2024 Maharashtra state elections.
